Hi, I too posted before introducing myself. I'm Brian Atkin from Culpeper, Virginia, USA. My daughter (Annie Victoria (16)) and I are going over to England next week. I have always cherished my English heritage and the stories told by my grandparents about England and the incredible pride they had in being English. I look forward to being involved in AccyWeb!
Not really sure how much introduction you want but here's why I want to be here and be closer to England!:engsmil:
My grandpa, George Henry Hall grew up in Ashton Under Lyne (family of 18) and died in Accrington in 1982. At age 16, he fought in the trenches in WWI and suffering serious mustard gas burns. He never talked much about it because my Mom says "he lost so many of his mates over there."
My Nana Hall (Woodhead) was sent over here when she was 6 after her mom died in childbirth. My grampa Woodhead had 4 boys and didn't think he could care for my nana. Of her 4 brothers 1 was killed at El Alemain, 1 was left an invalid, 1 was left deaf, and the 4th fought for the Aussies and survived okay I guess. They were all from Bradford, Yorkshire. When my granddad heard she wanted to marry a Lancashire guy he was gonna fly over and stop the wedding!
Oh yeah, my grampa Atkin was from Derbyshire but he came over around 1880.
I so hope that England continues to carry on in the World Cup especially cause we'll be over ther during the finals!!:engsmil: :engsmil: :engsmil:
