Re: Broadway Insanity

How long would you expect a town centre to last ?
How long before a tidy and spruce up?
and how long before the paving is replaced, new planters lighting, street furniture etc??
How many times has broadway been redone? I've got no idea being an outsider. Both nuneaton and tamworth were done in late 80's when they were pedestrianised, both undertook further pedestrianisation two years ago 04 and tidied small parts of the previous scheme up. so thats about 15-20 years. Atherstone had a major refurbishment work, in 95, that made headline news with spiraling costs. The work went so over budget that a large chunk of the work was never completed, the main road equivalent to broadway, was meant to be resurfaced with stone but got left as tarmac. Then it started to fall apart, and the cobbled speed bumps had to be replaced with tarmac. It's still slowly falling apart and as it does the clay pavers, stone, rivern paving and cobbles get replaced with tarmac. full circle 11 years.
