Re: What's the nicest thing someone has done for you?

About 15 years ago I went on holiday on my own, (I'd had a bad time and needed to get away), when I got off the plane and was waiting for my rucksack I struck up a conversation with a bloke who was doing the same as me. Neither of us had an apartment booked. We shared a taxi into the main town and when we arrived a mad Greek woman asked us if we were looking for a room. We both said 'yes'. She of course, assumed that we were together and showed us a really nice double room. Once we'd explained to her that we didn't know each other and the chap had gallantly allowed me to have the really nice room she showed him a room of his own.

For the whole week, knowing that I was a bit fragile, he was my guardian angel. He never asked anything of me, he never took advantage and he was always extremely gallant and generous. He even helped me find the apartment one night when I had gone out with some girls I'd met and got so drunk that I was yobbishly being sick in the street. When I think back to the sort of situation that I could have been in and the advantage he could have taken of me, I can't help but think I found a real gentleman there.

He gave me his card as we stepped back of the plane in Manchester and I'm ashamed to say that I rudely threw it into the first bin that I walked past. It was very mean of me when he'd shown me nothing but kindness. I only hope he didn't see me do that. At a time when I didn't think there were any gentlemen out there he gave me complete faith that there are.
