Donald Rumsfeld was a former Navy pilot, graduate of Princeton University, Secretary of Defense twice, (once in the 1970's and currently), a WH Chief of Staff, Ambassador to NATO, U.S. Congressman and chief executive of two Fortune 500 companies. He has been an exemplary public servant. However, it was time for him to go. Six years is a long time in the Sec Def job. It's a very tough gig - especially in a time of war. Not to mention that he has had to reform the institution and rebuild the military after it was cut drastically during the '90's.
Here in Georgia, the Republicans did very well. The party nationally ought to take note. In short, Republicans in this state did what they were elected to do and didn't dis the people who brought them to the dance. Interesting to see how many Democrats ran as conservatives in order to get elected this time around. What we down here refer to as Blue Dog Democrats. Let's see how independent these freshmen are when they get to Washington and have to deal with their ultra left leadership. It's going to be fun.
