It's not a case of why can't the parent wait with the child. If Busman wasn't working then he would happily take her there and bring her home anyway. I can't do that. I don't drive. But even as an adult I would not want to stand around on that corner in the dark alone.

That may be so, but in order to encourage the children to go if the parents can't take them then they say not to worry about transport because they'll pick the kids up in their mini bus. It's the Youth Club's idea.
All I am saying is that personally I do not think it's a particularly responsible idea to ask a 12 year old girl to stand alone on a dark corner out of sight of home at 7 o'clock at night.
