I don't drink alcohol at all so maybe I shouldn't have an opinion but I have seen what drink can do to someone mentally - when drunk he would attack his wife and almost killed her once. When sober he was full of remorse. It must be horrendously difficult for someone who is addicted and struggling hard to resist the temptation. Especially when people say stupid things like "Go on, have one. Just one won't harm you." when an alcoholic can't stop at 'just one'.
