Chasing them away and possibly catching them is the easy bit. The hard bit is getting the police to do something about it. Clouting them around the lug is assault yet they get away with damaging other peoples property. Tinks I would have gone to the school as well as the police anyway because throwing objects even eggs at a car can cause an accident and they should be made to realise that. Next step would be to sue the arse of the parents for bringing up irresponsible children.
