Cool Re: Old Time Crooners ....

Ah! Yes! The Dance Bands of yesteryear West Ender and garinda. Ambrose, Geraldo, Harry Roy, Lew Stone, Roy Fox and not forgetting Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, the Dorsey Brothers to name just a handful. Who can forget Gene Krupa’s rhythmic drumming with the American Big Bands. In my view he was the best drummer of all time barring none. Of course cocaine helped. But nonetheless the 1939 Carngeie Hall version of Sing, Sing, Sing lasted just over 12 minutes and Krupa’s rhythm was legendary.

I bought The Jolson Story DVD some time back WillowTheWhisp and it also included Jolson Sings Again.

Larry Parks, who played the part of Jolson was so perfect in his miming to Jolson’s singing that it was impossible to tell that he was miming. His actions were move perfect too.

I think that Jim Reeves does count steeljack. Did you know that someone called Sally Kelly recorded a song entitled “He’ll Have To Stay” as an ‘answer’ to JR’s “He’ll Have To Go”.
