I don't see why any more should be expected than that really.
As a non-smoker all I ask is to be able to eat a meal without it tasting of someone else's 2nd hand smoke and for other people not to smoke in my smoke free home. Beyond that then if I choose to go into an area (pub for example) where other people are smoking then it's my choice to do so or not. If there's decent ventilation and the place isn't like a thick fog I don't really mind. I don't like the smell on my clothes and hair afterwards but guess what I do about that? I wash them!
I think there's a lot to be said for having some places smoke free so that others can enjoy them - particularly asthma sufferers, but sometimes the rules get out of proportion. I'm a great believer in live and let live.
