Suppose so but, surely if you was contemplating MASS murder on this scale you are gonna plan it out to the very last T.
So just pop it in your sat nav pay a few visits to that area to seek out if it is quiet enough....kill them.....dump the bodies then make your way home 100,s of miles away. That way the police think you are local because you have knowledge of the area
There are things that need to be looked into, No doubt they are doing a fantastic job.....and they WILL catch the killer/killers because technology is FAR better than the mind of a serial killer no matter how good they think they covered their tracks.
