Yep, that's normal. It's programmed that way - because once you've read the thread or posted in it there are no posts which are new to you so that thread is no longer part of 'new posts' - what the name actually means is threads which feature posts which are new to you.

My 'new posts' are totally different to yours and everyone elses.

If you want to see the threads you've added to or the ones you've read you can click 'today's posts' instead.
