Re: Wrek'em Game thread
Evening folks
Hope that 3 points were as magnificent for you as they were for us... (those of you at home were probably drier and warmer, but who am I to complain???)
It was tremendous. Simple as that. I think macca asked CAN WE PLAY YOU EVERY WEEK? I wish we could. There were 11 man of the matches, because it was 100% a team performance.
Just to clear a few things up that were a bit hazy due to my vagueness or outright not-seeing-it.
1. I had a bit of a go at Leam, who I thought should've cleared the ball for their goal. There was a suggestion of an elbow, but I didn't see it. However, after the game I saw him sporting a pretty impressive bruise around the eye. So it might've happened!
2. Evil, Welchy and Elliot - was a bit of a domino job. Asked Rob, he said that Evil pole axed Welchy who bounced into him, leaving Evil with a clear shot at goal. For me, still a foul, and the ref spoke to Evil for some time afterwards.
3. ADVERTS (Zero, here's the bit you've been waiting for)
There's a couple of reasons why we had to have them.
- Equipment - switching all our gear around meant that we only had one hand mic between the 2 of us, meaning that I had to do the majority of the talking to avoid endless passing backwards and forwards. I've been a bit poorly of late, and suffering from a sore throat, and couldn't possibly have done the lion's share of a 90 min commentary on my own. Kaz was there to help, but with 2 mics it is far easier and sounds far better.
-Sponsorship- Long story, but the Burnley coverage is sponsored and Stanley isn't (or more truthfully our Stanley sponsor pulled out) that means that with no Burnley we had loads more ads that needed to be played (the same amount for a music show)
-Legal reasons- Technically, Wrexham didn't know we were doing it. At many clubs you need to get special permission from BOTH clubs to do full commentary, and obviously with the short notice, we didn't. Had we just dived straight in then there was a very real chance of us being switched off AND getting into trouble...
I know the adverts are ANNOYING, but it's the only way that the station continues to exist, and broadcast the sports stuff, and keep me in employment...
I hope that the interruptions didn't detract from the experience for anyone. After all, it was a great day, ads or no ads.
P.S It is the case that t'internet listeners have a 5 minute delay. So that's why some of you were lagging behind the text services etc.
