....... going off outside which is driving me batty.

It's not one of those continuously going house alarms which you can almost become immune to after a while, oh no, this one has more in common with a man snoring. It sort of warbles, whistles and screaches in a manner resembling a bird being strangled - then it stops and you just get used to the peace and quiet when .... off it goes again! I think it's a car alarm.
