When they shaved his head when he went into the Army, it looked dark because it was so short. Check photos pre '55 to see I'm telling the truth. It was Col. Tom Parker who got him to first dye it black, and wanabes around the world followed.
Saved you a search. This is his natural dark blond hair, even though the Brylcreem has darkened it.
