I was offered places at St. Martin's in London and Liverpool, and eventually decided on Liverpool, which was very progressive at the time, and not as pretentious as the London college. I'd still always chose the course over the location everytime.

Me too! Polytechnics were the best way to get into arts - I went to Salford which was great - close enough to take my washing home, close enough to Manchester for nightlife and cheap enough to rent.
I agree that you should choose course over location though - basically where ever there is a large number of students there is always going to be a decent nightlife - it's more or less built in!
