I haven't seen the paper but noticed the headlines outside the paper shop. As an ex taxi driver and owner, I am curious as to whether they are talking about taxis or private hire vehicles.

Down south there are extremely stringent checks done on taxis (hackney carriages) and they can fail a test merely on dirty interiors or exteriors. Most areas also confine the age of a taxi to 5 years old or less BUT private hire vehicles do not have to conform to the same standard.

Having been out of the business for a number of years, I do not know if the same rules apply in Lancashire.......but I would guess they would
