used to drive a hackney early 80s in accy, to actually get the license was stricter, as opposed to private hire,as busman will probably be aware. the checks on the hackney where far more stringent up here also, which used to cause great annoyance,but at least they were safe. i have never understood WHY it should not be similar for Private Hire
