Re: Catholic Church not all bad

It doesn't actually say that she helped him either, more like she didn't stand in his way and try to stop him. She didn't actively discourage him but neither did she actively encourage him. Although she does say that she is there to offer him emotional support she didn't exactly go out and pay for a prostitute for him.

He said he did not discuss his decision directly with Sister Frances, who founded the two hospices. "But I know she gave me her support."
I can see similarities here with the Catholic adoption agencies attitude towards gay couples adopting. They don't actively discourage it, neither do they actively encourage it. They do support the gay couples in that they direct them towards an organisation which will help them to adopt in much the way that Sister Francis offers this young man emotional support and who can say whether she may not have pointed him in the dirction of the magazines with the ads just as the Catholic agencies point people towards the other adoption agencies? So although she isn't Catholic and although this was supposed (I presume) to be showing a contrast in attitudes I personally find them very similar.

I also find it rather sad that the young man in the article has not found a loving relationship. I know of someone similar who has, and is now married and the proud father of two lovely, lively, boisterous children.
