Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
Good luck to you Slinky anyone alse trying to kick the habit. It's something I've never done so never had to try quitting but I've seen other people struggle so I know it can't be easy.
I did a health course where they explained about how the addiction works and why people get cravings and it's hard to quit. The opinion seemed to be that every time you have a ciggie it reminds your brain what it's craving and sort of keeps the desire topped up. They did say that it takes a long time for that to go away, especially for people who have smoked a lot. I was amazed at some of the ingredients of cigarettes too - rocket fuel???!
My Dad was a smoker but he just quit one day - threw all his fags away and that was it - and he had a lot in the cupboard that had been brought back off holiday. I don't know what inspired him to quit, he never said, and he never started again. It must have been quite an acheivement although I didn't realise it at the time. I also never realised how stinky cigarettes were because I'd been so used to lving with the smell but once he'd stopped and the house became clean I found that I noticed how the smell stuck to my hair and clothes if I went into the homes of friends whose parents smoked.
I really admire people who can cut down and/or eventually stop. It must take a heck of a lot of doing. Good luck
