Re: vs Stockport County

Good set of fans from Stockport yesterday, didn't see or hear of any trouble and every Stockport fan I spoke to had good words to say about us. Would especially like to thank the Stockport fans in the bar after the game who stood up and applauded when Loweiy was giving his Churchill speech.

Nice to see the away end properly full and with a bit of colour from their flags as well. Good effort from our lads but not our best singing moments by end stretch of the imagination. Listening to the Stockport fans noise could have been so much better if they had all sung the same song at the same time! At one point they had threee different songs being sung and all were audible, says something about the strenght in depth though that they can carry three different songs.

It was a shame the referee wanted to be the star of the show - the stop start nature did absolutely nothing to maintain any atmosphere. But yet again he was crap for both teams not least of all Robbie Williams blatantly controlled with his hand in the area with 15 minutes to go.

As far as the Stanley performance went I thought we played some absolutely blinding football for good spells, but we seem to have lost the ability to penetrate. Some good lead up play but not really testing the keeper. Rommy Boco's touch is fantastic and he looks like he is back to his best now.
Tony Grant - how much time can one man have on the ball? Even in the penalty area he seems to find time to put his foot on the ball, change direction and pass it out, class. The Keeper - getting better and more confident every game, but looks really laid back with his kicking. Never seems to meet a back pass and thats why his kicking is poor. Needs to run out to it some times rather than waiting for it to come to him. Mauro - looks strong and wasn't muscled off the ball once. Couple of mis understandings with the defence around him but was covering for Rogers quite a bit. Also thinks he can let the ball bounce before he deals with it and nearly suffered as a result. Will learn the pace of the game quickly though.
Phil Edwards - MOM performance and rightly so. Good time fo rhim to pick up a MOM with Cav about to be declared fit. Can the Captain get his place back?

Good drinking to be had in the Oaklea later on, sharing a few drinks with Fred Pirrie who played for the Galbraith era in the fifties. Sharing tales of Eric Whalley and Bryan Douglas at the dog tracks and doing National Service with Bobby Charlton and Duncan Edwards. Its nice to speak to these guys and the fact that he has lived around the corner from the ground all these years amazes me. Also spotted was Stuart Fleetwood having dinner with his mum. Big up to the Fleetwoods, nice people with friendly words and I wish Stuart all the best for the future.
