Re: vs Stockport County
I reckon Mangan was given chance when we had nobody else and he blew it by getting sent off for petulance. As far as David Brown is concerned, Coley said last week that when players display the correct attitude and are willing to work hard he will give them a chance. Does Brown not display these two traits in training every day?
I agree and disagree on Mullin though. He does what is asked of him in every game and turns up prepared to be battered, he rarely loses the ball when he gets it to feet and he works harder than ANYBODY else in the side. However, we do play a very readable game and need to have a plan B. I dont think Mully would take it to heart if he was told that he was being rested whilst we tried a different attacking option out.
Boco and Brown up top
Whalley, Harris or Proctor, Grant, Todd across the middle.
Brown is clever enough to play with Boco and between them they would be tricky little buggers. It would rely on a better class of passing from the midfield but Harris played some clever balls on saturday and Grant, when he realises he can kick forwards as well, has got the cleverness in him. Ally that with fast wing play from Todd and Whalley and we would have the ability to cut through people again. It allows for flexibilty in that either Boco or Brown can come deeper if necessary and Mullin as a 'resting' sub can either come on to hold up the ball if we are winning or to throw on as a third striker if we are chasing and need to lump a few balls in.
Mullin would always get in my first 11, but I would not base our entire game around him. We should be looking for faster play from our wingers to get in behind them and whipping early balls in for the likes of Boco or Mully to nip on the end of. But we never see that kind of goal anymore.
