There are plenty of other religious/cultural/ethnic groups in this country like Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, Chinese who maintain their own distinct identity, yet (with occasional exceptions) don't continually ask for special treatment. I don't have figures to hand but I believe that some of these groups are greater numerically than the Muslim population. So why is it that Muslim organisations seem to be forever airing their grievances and demanding that we adapt to their culture? And are these organisations truly representative of the Muslim population? I work with a guy who's a practising Muslim. He goes off to an empty office to do his praying everyday, but he despises those Muslims who want to emphasise their difference and demand that our society changes to fit in with their principles. I'd be interested to hear what Muslim members of this forum like Mani think about this.
