Families come in all shapes and sizes. I don't believe that you have to be married to raise kids properly but I do believe that you have to be a stable family unit. This can be step- parents, adoptive parents, unmarried parents, gay parents.. I do believe that having more than one parent being involved in a child's upbringing is of benefit, but if the mother or father does not want involvement then the importance of grandparents plays a part.

All too often the grandparents are left without contact with their grandchildren when a couple separates... TV shows like Jeremy Kyle, Ophra etc are filled with fighting couples using their kids as weapons.. Behind these fighting couples are usually their parents who are desperate to see their grandchildren... This is so wrong.. My nan played a huge role in our upbringing, even though my mum and dad divorced, we were still a family unit and a very close one at that.

I don't believe that parents have to be married, but they do need to be supportive of their children, whatever their living arrangements may be..
