I thought they were aiming it at lone parents for starters. This morning on the radio they said every loan parent whose youngest child was 12 or above should be 'encouraged' back to work. On the face of it, OK an average 12 year old can survive as a latch-key kid but wasn't that supposed to be a deplorable situation? Also not all 12 year olds are equal and some have physical and mental needs so hopefully those will be considered. Then there was mention of bringing the age limit down to 11, then 10 etc etc. Surely what would ultimately be required then would be more affordable childcare?

Will it work? Probably not.

I agree with Granny. Bring back conscription and get some of the teenage yobbos off the streets first before targetting more vulnerable groups.
