I agree with getting people back to work but I dont think you can generalise, they need to look at individual cases. A child of 11/12 should not be expected to be on their own after school whilst a parent is still at work, though a job during school hours would work ok. I think Entwisi is right when he says the amount of benefit given, people wont want to give that up for a job that pays less.
