The excuse will be enviromental not safety but I do think it will happen. Will you still feel the same about your car when the duty on LPG is increased more in line with petrol? After all both are fossil fuels. I know LPG burns cleaner but LPG only give's out 20% less CO2 than petrol and CO2 emission's are the current green buzz words.

Not an excuse to speed at all. faced with a lorry coming at me througfh teh central res(And I've seen it happen a few times) I'd like to be able to shove that foot down and get out the way. Cars won't be limited on bhp for forseeable future, there aren't even any rumours, black boxes for speeds won't happen due to privacy. Also you will often find that the larger engined cars are actualy more environmentally friendly when it comes to emissions than a lot of small cars. There are some Mercs/Saabs and volvos that driven through london actually filter the air and put out less crap than they sucked in. Electric vehicles just move the production of emissions from the exhaust to the power station, there is no evidence that they would actually make any difference whatsoever to the overall emissions figure. Then there is teh life cycle of teh car itself. over 75% of teh emissions that a car is responsible for throughout its life come from manufacture and recycling. I'm a high mileage user (current vehicle is at 170K miles and I'm aiming for >250K )so I actually get the most out of the total emissions cost
LPG duty will not increase for at least 4 years. The LPG used in the UK is a by product of the extraction of oil. About 75% of what comes out is actually burnt at the rig as we don't have a market to use it. The more LPG vehicles, the more efficient the whole oil extraction process becomes
20% is still a significant figure and when you add particulates and NOx to the mix its a massive saving. However more importantly, you also seem to be missing the whole point about emissions. With the rate of growth in China at the moment if the WHOLE of Europe stopped producing a single molecule of CO2 today, China would fill the gap left in less than 4 years. It is effectively useless to say that we are helping without the world reigning in the likes of China and USA.
