Ok. I read it but different words went into my brain
Surely people who wanted out of the relationship in the first place but were put off by the stigma/expense of divorce would indeed get out, and the rest who thought they were in the state's eyes 'married' would get the paperwork sorted.
Though some may see no problem with how they have been living up until now and keep the situation as it is.
Afterall, many many cohabiting couples have very healthy relationships and in lots of cases, healthier relationships than those of married couples as legal strains are not a problem.
