As a student nurse, I once played a joke on one of my colleagues whilst we were working in A&E. When patients came in, they went to the reception where the lady there would fill out a card containing the patients personal details and the nature of their complaint. As a student it was one of my jobs to go to reception every few minutes and collect the cards so that we knew who was in the waiting room and who to call through to be treated.
I slipped an extra card in there with the name Don Kiddick written on it, the poor man couldn't pee...
My mate went into a jam packed waiting room several minutes later shouting 'DON KIDDICK'. All the patients were looking round and then at each other. My dozy mate, not yet realising, pumped up the volume and shouted 'DON KIDDICK'... By this time, several of the patients had started laughing and several others were trying not to.
At the 3rd shout of 'DON KIDDICK' it suddenly dawned on her what she had been shouting. She went bright red, scuttled off around the corner to find me and a couple of colleagues falling about laughing in the corridor. The waiting room was in uproar, as was fracture clinic waiting room next door and we were in for a right bollocking from the sister in A&E.
It was worth it though, all the patients we saw that morning were laughing when they came through for treatment and said that we'd made their day.
