fame is a funny thing ,you can be famous in one place and unknown in another , a few years back I was in a bar in Toronto during 'happy hour' the place was busy and these two old gents came over and asked if we minded them sharing our table , ....."no problem , sit down" a few minutes later folks begin coming over and asking one of the old gents if he would give them his autograph , he obliged and away they went , this happened another 4 or 5 times , finally I leaned over and said , "excuse me , but are you someone famous" the one who had be signing the autographs said , " well some people do " me ......." well who are you then " the other old wrinkly then chips in "this is Mr Lawrence Welk " another blank look from me , I had never heard of the guy , seems at one time during the 60s and 70s the guy had the number one musical entertainment show on North American television.
nice old chap , years later I've watched his TV shows in re-runs and are they are pure smaltz , polkas and accordians .........
