I'd best answer my own question before anyone tells me off!!!

Yes i was going round town at the age of 16 - in fact the first time i went down accy was on my 16th birthday - felt my age and me and my mate came back to baxenden got a couple of bottles of olde english and drank them walking along the back lane back to rising bridge.

Before that i was drinking in the pub - with my mum & dad in attendance. In fact the pub landlord when i was 16 and could go into the pub on my own refused to let me drink alcohol in the pub even if i was with my mum & dad until i was 18.
