By the laws of this land divorce isn't a private matter, it's a legal matter. I can get married in my church but it must be done legally with a legal representative (registrar) present as that is the part that makes the marriage valid. To get divorced it is nothing to do with the church, I cannot get divorced in church - it's the courts which deal with divorces. I believe this applies to every other religion in this country apparently apart from Islam.
