Think most rooms are now designed with at least a double/twin beds in them, but the cost of servicing a room does not cost any more, re linen, etc., in fact more.. more use of towels, etc.,when full occupancy ('cept the mini bar of course ) It is the money spent in the restaurants,etc., that is the deciding factor for these loadings.

At one time you could get a hotel room in the U.K. double with single occupancy rates; still more, but a compromise. However, talking abroad here and they are all designed for full occupancy on the whole. The argument will be that the single rate charge is the correct rate, but discounts for more people in the room .. weird.
