Two ex-pat Brits living in Spain, and meeting in a bar/shop/cafe etc., will not be speaking Spanish, even if they can, and even if it is infront of a Spaniard, and won't care a jot about whether the indigenous Spaniard thinks it's bad mannered, or not.
