I've wondered that too. I used to think the people my Mum liked were ancient doddery old has-beens but they were probably younger then than Paul McCartney is now.

My kids have quite an amazing range of musical appreciation but that's probably because they hear a lot of the old stuff rehashed as well as on TV commercials, apart from in my CD collection.
