I would nominate Len's on the corner of Ranger Street and Eden Street. His fish and chips were the best I've ever tasted anywhere, and, as my mum sometimes says, "when he died, the secret died with him". I reckon the key to his success was the fact that he didn't diversify. No pies, no pasties, no sausages and curry sauce would have mortally offended him.
No, he just stuck to what he knew best - fish, chips and peas (with, of course, the obligatory packs of Park Drive and bottles of Tizer in the corner). And it worked...Len's was the most popular chippy in the district. I can still see the queues stretching up Ranger Street. Accrington's best-ever chippy, in my opinion!
