We eat lot's of leftovers and rarely have to throw any kind of food item in the trash. Grease and oil and fats get thrown out. Everything else is thrown into the compost pile or given to the chickens and guineas.

Have never heard of throwing anything into the toilet over here. I guess alot of folks have garbage disposals that grind it up and it goes into the septic system. We have a septic tank and putting food items in would cause us to have to pump it out more frequently.
