Union Street Methodist Church

Hi, one of our members, George, mentioned about the church that used to be at the very bottom of Union Street, right hand side. These are all I can find at the moment, not good quality, sorry. There had been a church on this site since 1846. The final service took place on Sunday Jan 29th, 1956. Its scary to think of how many people were buried there. In 1964 the remains of about 780 bodies (yes! 780!) were to be removed and taken to Accrington Cemetery. Its not just as easy as that though. The Highways Committee had to authorise the Town Clerk to submit an application to the Secretary of State for a licence to enable the Council to remove the human remains in this disused burial ground.
