Re: pc salesmans white lies
This is typical of places like PC World and doesn't surprise me in the least. Exactly why I build all my computers myself and pay half of what they would charge at places like that. Obviously everyone can't build computers, but if you know anyone that knows about basic technology, it isn't hard, I did it using trial and error. I think people should also beware of smaller places too, like independent shops. A good percentage of those will rob (or try to rob) you too, I know first hand. This isn't to say they are all like that, I just say beware, it isn't just big companies that rob or misguide people. It's no surprise that you found a solution either. I can even run a few XP drivers on Vista, requiring I tweak it a little. I was told that I wouldn't be able to get my entire studio (including all the hardware) to run on vista. The fact is it does, although it ain't the best at the moment. It's not vista's fault in my case, it's Creative/E-MUs fault; they promised Vista drivers a long time ago and they didn't deilver. I like Vista, I just don't like Vista support, it's virtually non-existent with a lot of "respected" manufacturers, and solutions/workarounds are only just workable. In a year It will be no different to XP though, the OS does remind me of XP a lot, just an advanced version, the XP fans will come round once all the support from hardware and software manufacturers is in place. I saw it happen a long time ago.John
