I am from the US and have never been to Accrington. I just received some birth and marriage certificates from National Statistics indicating that my Hindle ancestors were from Accrington, and would like some help understanding the information.
According to the marriage certificate, Christopher Hindle (son of Henry) and Hannah Stringer (daughter of William) were married "at the Parochial Chapel in the Chapelry of Accrington in the County of Lancaster" on June 2, 1850.
- What does this mean? I assume that this is a reference to Church of England since no denomination is listed, correct?
- If so, can one tell which parish from this description? My references from the www.genuki.org.uk web site indicate that at least St. James on Cannon St. and Christ Church on Manchester Rd. were established before 1850. Perhaps there were others?
An additional piece of information that might help - According to the birth certificates for 2 of their children, they lived at 25 Nuttall Street.
- Out of curiosity, does this address still exist and is it residential (perhaps the structure from 1850)?
Finally, I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they might be related to me based on the above information.
