I remember the bit in the book where Allan Carr says that smoking is not pleasurable. It is merely a device to keep the withdrawal symptoms at bay. He likens it to banging your head against a brick wall in order to feel better when you stop.

My trouble is that I really do enjoy having a fag. I always have.

I always have. __________________ Old aunts used to come up to me at weddings, poking me in the ribs, cackling and telling me 'You'll be next.' They stopped when I started doing the same to them at funerals.
