Not all banning orders are for life. To be honest I don't recall ever see it being applied although I'm sure somebody can find one. A recent case reported in the Nelson Leader in Nelson shows that orders are usually up to 2 or 3 years even if the offenders have previously held banning orders;

Not sure banning orders are put in place of people have only been ejected from a ground ( then a club may apply there own I guess), if the offence is charged and goes through the court I think the police apply for banning orders as standard.
