Yes, saw this Gayle, was definitely mystified
Read it a few times as not so certain as to what he was trying to say?
Did say his "personal opinion was that a name change,
for most people, would have no effect" (will effect all persons in terms of cost). The Observer picked up on this as a title 'Change has no effect' .. not quite the same.
He goes on to say that "there are valued arguments for and against, but who is right and who is wrong only time will tell" Will only be able to tell whether was correct if a name change takes place, and results show that doing so will have brought more economy into the borough. Hope you following this ?
He then proceeds to tell us that we could be placated by changing our addresses to e.g. Oswaldtwistle, Nr. Accrington, Lancs. This was always the case in the past, but now with the introduction of post codes not really necessary.
Maybe he is softening a little on this issue by sitting on both sides of the fence so as not to be seen as being on what will be the "losing side" .. i.e. no change to Accrington & District !!
Please tell me I am not being stupid here and misunderstanding this letter ..
