But in a sense she is elected. She did get her position by the chance of birth, but she retains it with the consent of the people. If a majority of voting English people were moblilised to get rid of the monarchy surely it would be done. There are no doubt millions in England who would be happy to see the end of the monarchy, or who don't give a s***. But there are probably more millions who wish to see it retained. (This may be because of the character of the present Queen; and it could change after her death.)There seems to be a lot of the democratic in the monarchy.
