"If you are planning to attend and queue in the future, pleases ensure that you wear suitable clothing to keep warm and either have had something to eat and drink before going or take it with you so that you don't become dehydrated or hungry."

The Press Association: Bargain hunters hit the sales
Quote:
There were angry scenes at dawn on the high street today as more shops opened their doors and the post-Christmas sales blitz intensified.

Shoppers had to be physically restrained and ambulances were called as the appetite for bargains reached fever pitch.

There was increased security at many shops to counter fears that people would be hurt in the crush to be first through the doors at ever earlier opening times.

But there was chaos at some stores as customers accused each other of queue jumping and obstruction.

At Next in Oxford Street in London, staff had to restrain a small group of shoppers who accused one man of pushing to the front of the line.

And at various branches of the store in the West Midlands, three shoppers were taken to hospital after fainting or suffering breathing difficulties in the crowds.

Eyewitness Jessica Claydon, 23, from Great Barr, Birmingham, said of one of the female victims: "She had been queuing up since 4am and it was really cold.

"I noticed her start to wobble then her legs went and she ended up in a heap on the floor. Maybe she hadn't had time for breakfast and started to feel feint in the queue.
