Yes that's a good point. IF there are any problems with the property, whether rented through an agency or privately it's a good idea to go round the property and point them out and have them agreed on with the landlord even to the extent of getting it on paper signed by both parties so they can't accuse you of causing damage which was already there before you moved in.
