When I posted the weblink which said that I read that the shorter lifespan in outdoor rabbits was due to exposure to predators, such as foxes and dogs etc.
It also says that the rabbit can be 'scared to death' by just being threatened (not attacked) by one.
There are more urban foxes about than you might think. I have seen several -- they attack chickens on the allottments near my home.
