Thanks for all the replies and your thoughts on this. I am going to talk to my Mum about this again, I'm sure she can recall a bit more. One thing I have established is that my Grandma was quite ill at this venue, suffering from a illness that eventually saw her demise in 1970. The 50's therefore is way to early.
Mum and Stepdad had a bereavement today so I'll leave it a while before enquiring further. I'll post again on this thread as and when I get more. In the meantime if anyone stumbles across more info -please post
