Ok i sent an email on royal mails own site asking why the deliveries are so late - this is the reply:

This is an automated response please accept our apologies if the details
requested are not relevant to your enquiry/complaint

In order to investigate your enquiry fully, please can you supply the
following information by return of email. Unfortunately our e-mail system
is unable to open, or accept, attachments. Please ensure that your email is
sent in 'plain text' as our system reads HTML as an attachment.

(If your email is however regarding an international item of mail you will
need to complete a P58 lost/damaged/delay form which can be obtained from
any Post Office)

Carrier and service used (From 1 January 2006, ROYAL MAIL no longer has the
monopoly on collecting and delivering mail. In order for us to deal with
any complaint correctly, we need to know if the item was sent with Royal
Mail)
Tracking number
Addressee's full name and address
Sender's full name and address
Date of posting
Place of posting
Proof of value
Date of delivery / Incident date
An exact description of the contents
Replacement value of the lost / damaged item

Do you have a certificate of posting?
(Please note that you will need to produce one of these to in order to
receive compensation)

We may still need to come back to you to request further information by
post, but by supplying the above at this stage it will speed up your
enquiry.

So asking about deliveries the reply is an automated one - one which doesnt apply to the email i sent which they apologise for in advance. It also doesnt give you an email address to send it to - just back to the automated one. Anyway see what happens.
