Re: Post Office Closures

Blimey Claytonender .. you bin doing your homework.. Ok I surrender on this point. I must just use all the ones that don't charge, and do resent ever having to use the ones that do .. which have been mainly on Motorway Service stations.

Most shops will give cash back though which doesn't entail a fee, however, Clayton Co-op have stopped doing this now as they have a machine (except when it is out of order), but, as you say, they don't charge anyway on their machine.

I, myself, feel sorry for the demise of these local Post Offices, but they are losing lots of money. Have you read the Observer this week main points were:-

The loss of revenue .. 8 out 10 branches were running at a loss.

Each transaction costs the taxpayers £17.

The loss is now running at £4 million per week.

Consumer habits have changed with the introduction of on-line banking and direct debits, etc., and has drastically reduced the number of people using them.

I, myself, only ever use the PO to renew my car tax, but obviously not a problem to get to one .. as I naturally have a car, but could easily obtain from the Internet now.

What would you do if it were your business ?
