This isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but I have always treated appointments and birthdays as on the day/time in question I would be boarding a plane for that once in a lifetime holiday. In other words I MAKE SURE that I am there well before time and so is the card that I send. If it means me arriving early and having to sit around or the card arriving a day or two before the event, then so be it.

Now there’s an idea that is worthy of some merit.
You buy what is obviously an oversize card, put a 1st class stamp on it and send it to the manufacturer. This would highlight quite distinctly the problems.
